If you live in Canada and work in the United States, are you double taxed
If you live in Canada and work in the United States, are you double taxed?
I am wondering if Canada has income tax and if so, would you be charged income tax as a resident of Canada and also by your employer in the US?

That is a very good question. I am curious of the answer.
2 :
First of all, if you are a US citizen who happens to live in Canada but work still in the US, you do not need to file tax returns in Canada -- just the US. But if you are required to file a Canadian tax return, you are not "double taxed" (exactly - but you sure can be). First, you need to file all your US returns -- federal, state, local -- then you file your Canadian return. You report on it, your total worldwide income, converted into Canadian dollars based on the US average for the year. Canada figures out your tax liability based on this income, then gives you a Foreign Tax Credit equal to (in Canadian dollars) the amount of taxes you paid federally, to state and locals, to medicare and to social security. If after this credit, you still have a tax liability , then you owe Canada the balance. For instance, if you made 100K $US and the exchange rate was 18%, then you would report 118K $CDN of income, take a foreign tax credit equal to all your US taxes multiplied by 1.18 and see if you owe any more to Canada. Now, the more deductions and exemptions you have in the US, reduces your taxes in US and increases your refunds. However, the less you pay over there, the less your FTC will be, and the more you may be required to pay in Canada. Whew!!

We have two houses making up Congress. The House of Representatives has 435 members. The Senate has 100 members. The House initiates "bills" or new laws. The Senate then must ratify, (approve), the measure/s or amend them and it returns back to the house, or they can kill the bill. The House can re-introduce a new bill with changes if they decide. The House also controls the budget. All bills, once passed by both houses must go to the president for his signature. The president can sign it into law, or veto the bill. If vetoed, it goes back to the House. It can then be voted upon again and, if 2/3 of the members re-pass the bill, it becomes law without further action. This is called, overiding a veto. Without a 2/3 majority vote, the bill is dead. The election process involves each party permitting anyone to enter the Presidential race, or a third party or more. These are the Democratic, Republican, Independent, or Green parties. The Primaries are held, which is what we have/are experiencing. In each party, the voters cast votes for the candidate of choice. This is done in all the states, at different times. Delegates are chosen by the number of registered voters in each state. A candidate must gain a majority of delegates to become the presidentail candidate for the general election, held in November. Every four years. The Democratic party has their own rules for delegates. 2/3 of the delegates are obligated to support/vote for the candidtate that receives the majority of popular votes. 1/3 of the delegates, (Super Delegates), are free to support any candidate, although, they usually vote for the one with the majority of votes. All this is consumated at the National Conventions, where all delegates vote and are offcially recorded. That final vote decides the Presidentail candidate for the party. Also, the VP is chosen if not previously chosen. The primaries in Florida and Michigan were held earlier then in the past, and the Democratic party got pissed off, and ruled that those votes will not count. (Go figure) The Republican party has different rules. 100 % of Rebublican delegates, (No super delegates), are obligated to support the candidate with the majority of popular votes. They have their own convention. In the General election, voters can vote for either of the two party candidates, OR, thay can "write in" a different candidate of choice, even though s/he may not be listed on the ballot. Our president can urge his followers in Congress to introduce bills which he favors and the process begins. Unfortunately, any menber of the House can "hide" bills in a selected bill, called Pork Barrel, (fat), which are monies given to pet projects or a company who donated money to their campaign for re-election, in their state. This is open for lots of graft and dishonesty. Millions of tax dollars given to "friends in corporations". (I know of many) It can get a bit crazy. In a Mayoral election in a US city, a "dog" was elected as Mayor. A man had entered his dog on the ballot, (although no one knew it was a dog). Shows how little some voters know about a candidate, eh? Edit: Members of both houses are more than my numbers, as they are elected according to the number of districts in each state. Sorry, used some old numbers.

Wages in the U.S. Postal Service is usually better than competitive. Most positions in the post office are productivity-oriented, meaning you have to hustle to make quotas. They frown on slackers. The pay is good if you work at it and do as you're told. I worked in the USPS Computer Forwarding Section from 1981 to 1995.

Would the FairTax work in the United States
Would the FairTax work in the United States?
Would it solve the tax problem in America about equal pay? I would like to see the lower through upper class pay almost the same amount in taxes instead of a progressive tax or trickle down economic theory. What is the best method of taxation to get this done?

Fairness?Fairness? in America? The only fair tax is no tax...
2 :
The only reason we must pay tax, is because the government was convinced by bankers in 1913 to create its money by using a debt-based monetary system, managed by the Federal Reserve Bank. In fact the IRS was created about the same time the Federal Reserve Act was passed, in Congress in the middle of the night around Christmas eve. The interest on the money created through public debt must be paid by tax revenues coming from the citizens pockets to pay the bankers and the buyers of government bonds and bills. If the government would use its constitutional right and mandate to create money by fiat, through a credit-based system, it would create all the money it needs to operate, and provide very low interest credit to all citizens and businesses, without ever mentioning the word tax. Economic activity would go on just fine, because money is just a token that represents the value of all goods and services. The token itself is supposed to be worthless. What has happened is that the Bankers have turned the token into a "commodity", which is being "traded" as if it had real value. Until the general public is made to understand this fraud, there is no hope of solving the problem.
3 :
The so-called Fair Tax is a tax consumption rather than income. Therefore shifting away form income to consumption would increase the amount of income produced and reduce the amount of consumption (i.e. raise the level of saving). If you could literally prevent Congress from taxing income again, it might be net beneficial. History would tell you that eventually you would end up with taxes on both, which would simply make it easier for politicians to raise the total level of taxation. Take a look at the history of the income tax in the US form its inception.
4 :
A flat income tax would work only if there was a wealth tax included. A flat tax without a wealth tax on high earners would eventually put ALL wealth in the hands of a tiny percent of the population. The graduated income tax takes this into consideration. At one point it worked very well as President Teddy Roosevelt originally implemented the concept. No rich guy ever went belly up paying his taxes and no working class guy ever went belly up either. Over the years the top percentage paid dropped from 90% at the highest part of the six level progression down to 35% today as per the Reagan changes. At that point what Teddy Roosevelt feared began to happen. The 'rich' began to get much richer faster and because of a dearth of social services and benefits of citizenship the working class began to rapidly lose ground. Returning to the tax plan as worked out by President Bill Clinton would begin to reverse this trend....for whatever reason the GOP is opposed to doing that. One wonders why. In the 21st century the American wage earner requires several things from their government....quality education at public expense up tp and including the university level, decent retire partly at government expense and medical insurance paid for by individual premiums and government expense. The 'government expense' part seems to be a stopper until you understand that no money ever vanishes....it all gets recycled into the economy....but that's another story. Short answer: The progressive income tax IS a Fair Tax as long as the progressive steps are do not enrich or impoverish anyone....that's the definition of 'fair'. Give it a think!

The Fairtax would not work and, thankfully, it will never pass. Why is it "fair" that the poor pay the same as the rich? The "fairest" form of taxation is a progressive income tax. Like it or not, our current tax system isn't going away any time soon.

Maybe depeding on the company that you are wanting them to work. If you can show them you know what you are doing, I don't think they really care were you got your degree as long as you know what you are doing. While on the other hand they might care cause probably they never heard of the school you graduated from and they don't know if you just bought the degree off the street and made up the school name. So it all really depends on where you apply. I would ask the company first before i put an n app in so you don't waste your time
2 :
ofcourse, but the degree must be from the recognised university
3 :
The word "Accountant" is often restricted. You may get a job as "bookkeeper". You are unlikely to get anything more than an entry-level, low-pay job รข€” at least for several years if not forever. Many immigrants leave a professional career in their home country and find themselves at the bottom of the work ladder in the USA.

How well did Roosevelt's New Nationalism work in the United States?

This sounds suspiciously like an essay question I answered last week on an AP US History test. Consider his nickname, "the trust buster", having to do with him creating a bureau to break up business monopolies and trusts in industry, manufacturing, etc. Think of why this would benefit the people and the economy.
2 :
Depends on if you believe you have been better off since the great depression. Uncontrolled Capitalism moves in huge cycles of boom and bust that cause world wars. Roosevelt's introduction of Socialism in the name of New Deal programs has probably been been the world's savior, so far we have avoided another great depression for almost 80 years, under straightforward Capitalism we would have been due for WW6 by now and getting ready to fight it w. stones. So I'd say very, but not nationalism, that was simply how he sold it to a country terrified of Socialism and Communism.
3 :
Obviously Smudgeward missunderstood that the reference was to the first President Roosevelt, TR, not FDR. TR lost the 1912 election. New Nationalism was Theodore Roosevelt's Progressive political philosophy during the 1912 election. He made the case for what he called the New Nationalism in a speech in Osawatomie, Kansas, in August 1910. The central issue, he argued, was human welfare versus property rights. He insisted that only a powerful federal government could regulate the economy and guarantee social justice. Roosevelt believed that the concentration in industry was not necessarily bad, if the industry behaved itself. He wanted executive agencies (not the courts) to regulate business. The federal government should be used to protect the laboring man, women and children from what he believed to be exploitation. In terms of policy, the New Nationalism supported child labor laws and a minimum wage laws for women. The book Promise of American Life, written by Herbert Croly, influenced Theodore Roosevelt. This is in direct contrast with Woodrow Wilson's policy of The New Freedom, which promoted antitrust modification, tariff reduction, and banking and currency reform.

The best place to live and work in the United States would be Denver Colorado.

New York City is by far the very best place to live. So culturally rich, diverse & opportunities that are truly remarkable. It's a great place to "grow" & experience the world on so many different levels. (The people are great too!) You'd never be bored--and it's truly an inclusive city.

Charlotte metro area - less than three hours to the beach, less than three hours to the mountains. But go south of the border into South Carolina and also enjoy lower taxes as well as some of the cheapest gas in the country... and you can't beat the weather and those Carolina girls!

yes if you use a Canadian console most likely it will work if not Go for it
2 :
Yes.
3 :
Doubt it since there's no 1400 ms points in the us.
4 :
Yes the only issue you could come into is that employees often scam people for points half the time they give you a receipt with the code on it and they keep a copy for documentation of purchase well what's stopping them from entering you code you purchased nothing but morals and some people don't have the best so becarefull and try to redeem the code in that day I recommend linking your account to a credit card so their is no risk

If you buy a video game in another country, will it work in the United States
If you buy a video game in another country, will it work in the United States?
I am going to Japan in July for two weeks, and there is a game that will be out in Japan but not in the US yet. If i buy the game there, and bring it back home, will it work? I went to Pakistan once and got 10 games for 10 dollars and none of them worked, so I'm not sure if this will or not Is Japan better about their games or do you need to get the game in your own country?

Where is the BEST place to live and work in the United States
Where is the BEST place to live and work in the United States?
We've lived all over the place and we're looking for our retirement home after walking away from an Army career. Remember: Your opinions welcome and be sure to answer honestly for 10 points! :)

BOSTON!!!!!!!! I am totally biased becasue I was born here but the history, the skyline, the beaches, the culture. You really couldn't ask for more. Okay, it's freezing in the winter and the summers are gross but its still fun! We have the Red Sox too!
2 :
It really depends on what you are looking for. As far as retiring....most people like FL for its laid back culture, its beautiful beaches and great housing choices. I've lived in Tallahassee all my life and its definitely a great place to live. I haven't lived in any place else other than Jacksonville and Miami and they were lacking as far as a community setting. I love Tallahassee for the reason that its a great place for families, people are have close relationships to one another, great southern hospitality, great churches, and the city is not too small. Also it offers natural springs for great water that you can drink out of the faucet and just a great beautiful environment. I would recommend at least a visit.
3 :
Hawaii, how could anyone not want to live in such a beautiful place.
4 :
I would say anywhere but Boston. I think the Northwest is beautiful.....that is Oregon, Washington. Wyoming is a great place to find work and cheap housing. I wish I had more information from you....it would make it easier.
5 :
Right now, it seems to be Houston, TX. The wages are competitive with Southern California, and the cost of living is so much less. Property-wise, you get alot more for your money in Texas, as opposed to the other major cities.
6 :
YES! New England!
7 :
look for a state that is not outsourcing all the jobs..the funny thing is they are going by 10 to 15 year contracts so you have to do some research..no matter how secure u feel in your job today ..your company could have easily have set up future plans over seas that can effect our jobs tomorrow.

I think if you do some checking on the Internet that you will be totally amazed by what you find out about Northwest Arkansas i.e. Fayetteville, Bentonville, and Rogers. It is consistently listed in the top 5 in various publications as a great place to live. The crime rate is low, our unemployment is around 2.7%, tremendous job growth, low cost of living, beautiful Ozark mountains, the University of Arkansas, and we are the home of several Fortune 500 companies. The headquarters of Wal-Mart, Tyson Foods, J.B.Hunt, and many others call NWA home. We do not like being compared to other parts of Arkansas because of how Arkansas has been stereotyped. NWA is like another country. We have mild winters with some snow and we are close to many large cities like Tulsa, Kansas City, and St. Louis. We are also about 23 miles form Eureka Springs, Arkansas and about 75 miles form Branson, Missouri which are popular destinations. Take a look.

How can I make my appliance work in the United States
How can I make my appliance work in the United States?
I purchased a hair curler from the UK. The seller told me that it had universal voltage and that I would only need an adapter. However, I don't see that printed anywhere. The voltage reads 230v ~ 5a-60Hz 35W. So do I just need an adapter or a voltage converter? Thanks

Sorry, No straight help here. Although there are places that you can plug in ( with a adapter plug) it will not be in the bathroom. If you plug it into 120 vac it will get warm not hot! The only other possibility is an isolation transformer, wired to add 120 volts to the 120vac house power but you will be pulling more than 10 amps.
2 :
You need a voltage converter; 110 V to 230 V, 35 W or higher.

United States Marine work out routine?
I'm enlisting in about a year, and want to get in better shape than I am now. Just looking for some friendly suggestions/routines from real people who went through it. (Anybody go through boot after smoking for a couple of years? Any advice?)

3 :
run, run, run

Well, just like everyone else said; Run!!!! Running won't make you a Marine, though. Make sure you incorporate pushups, pull-ups, sit-ups, and all of that good stuff in there too. Overall, just make sure you put all you've got into your workouts--it will really help you prepare for the rigors of boot camp. Trust me; my boyfriend left for San Diego a while ago, and for months before I kept telling him that he should work out, but he didn't listen... and now he's regretting it. He got ITBS because of the shock on his body from suddenly having to do so much. Good luck!

5 :
Sure: people will pretend to work and the government will pretend to pay them.
6 :
It won't. The more it spreads, the worse off we are. That's why all the countries are looking at making tremendous spending cuts following Greece's socialism failure.
7 :
IT WAS TRIED.... ... and we almost starved to death. Thankfully, Gov. William Bradford of the 1623 Plymouth Colony decided "each man would have set acres" instead of of having shared crops and shared work. As soon as he did that, the harvests were more than ever before and the threat of starving over the winter was gone from American history.
8 :
Same as it always works everywhere. The ruling class uses FORCE to control everyone else and lives opulently at the expense of holding "the people" in hopeless life-threatening poverty. This is the core of Democrat policy. The rest is details.
9 :
It can not and will not.I will fight to the death for American Individual freedom
10 :
It hasn't worked for any EU country so far and they have been around a lot longer. Why should it even be considered. Obama is pushing us that way and if the people fall for it We will have a ruling class and all else be poor. No middle class. Good luck on getting a decent thought out answer.

you should have donthis about a moth before it wxpired. hire a lawye before you get sent back
2 :
You cannot renew it if it already expired. As overstaying a visa can seriously interfere with you ever going to get another work permit you need to go home as soon as possible. Or if your employing company is large enough to employ a lawyer let your employer figure out whether there are any options. Options depend a lot on what visa you are currently on and how long ago it expired.

You can only work in the US if an employer sponsors you for a work visa. In order to get sponsored for a work visa you need to offer an useful skill and also the higher your degree is, the better. Knowing English isn't an useful skill for working in the US - most people are fluent (though websites like this make me sometimes doubt this), maybe translating between Greek and English, though I don't think there will be a lot of demand for that. Your degree from a Greek university should be accepted in the US, you probably will need to pay for some degree evaluation at some point, which however is just a formality.
2 :
To work in US, you must obtain Temporary Workers visa. To obtain Temporary Workers visa, you must have a US Employer who has to file Petition for you first. http://travel.state.gov/visa/temp/types/types_1275.html
3 :
If you want to work here, you need a work visa which is obtained by getting an employer to sponsor you. Unless you are highly educated and highly skilled in a profession that is needed in the US,you aren't going to find an employer to spend thousands of dollars to be your sponsor.
4 :
Pick a visa There are basically NINE ways that you can get a visa to live and work in the US: (1) Marriage (or engagement in anticipation of marriage) to a US citizen. (2) You have skills that are in short supply in the US e.g. scientific or medical training. A degree is normally a must. Or you have superior specialist skills with at least 12 years experience. (H visas) (3) You have an Employer who is willing to transfer you - but even the employer has to make a good case for you - so you have to be a manager unless you fall under category (2) above.(L visas) (4) You may get a Green card in the diversity lottery (UK citizens, except N.Ireland, are not generally eligible unless you, your spouse or parents were born abroad or held a different citizenship. (5)You own or buy business (does not get you permanent resident status i.e. no green card)You must be a national of a qualifying Treaty countries. The business must have a minimum value of around $150k (more the better) bearing in mind you will need somewhere to live and with any startup business you will need at least 2 years living money as back up. So a figure of $350k would be a nearer minimum (E-2 visas) (6)You are an "investor" i.e. you have at least US $1m in assets to bring with you. half of that in a few areas. And your background will be investigated to the hilt. (EB-5 visas) (7)You have a close relative (mother, father, brother, sister and no further) who is an US citizen who would sponsor you, approx time this take 2-12 years? (8.The R1 visa is available to foreign members of religious denominations, having bona fide non-profit religious organizations in the U.S., for entering the U.S. to carry on the activities of a minister or religious worker as a profession, occupation or vocation (9)THE UNUSUAL You are in a position to claim refugee status/political asylum. or You get a member of Congress to sponsor a private bill with legislation that applies just to you. The S visa issued to persons who assist US law enforcement to investigate and prosecute crimes and terrorist activities such as money laundering and organized crime Recruitment agent will not take you seriously if you are not already in the US. Writing for jobs is really a waste of time; likewise US employers have no idea what foreign qualification are or mean (except Degrees) it may pay you to get your qualification translated into a US equivalent, there are Companies that do this (www.wes.org) .. But if you are getting a visa under (2) above then you need a job offer before you can get the visa. Your Employer will be your sponsor this will cost them upward of $5k. So you can see you have to be offering something really special to get considered They may also have to prove to the Dept of labor that there is no American who can do the job if the position is to be permanent ร© follow the flow chart http://immigrationroad.com/green-card/immigration-flowchart-roadmap-to-green-card.pdf

It doesn't. The US isn't a democracy. Its a republic.
2 :
we have three branches of government that argue all the time
3 :
Well first we don't live in a democracy. In a democracy everyone has a vote on all the issues. We live in a republic. In a republic we vote in people to make those decisions for us. And it doesn't work very well because people get corrupt. They only think of themselves and only vote things that interest them and not the people they represent. I'm sure not all politicians are like that but most have to be because of the state the country is in and they don't seem to be doing a thing about it.
4 :
Court decision regarding warrant-less wire taping is Democracy working. Pres. Bush wrote a signing statement on the patriot act regarding wiretapping. Laws are written, by congress, passed in both houses by majority vote, then sent to the president to sign or veto. Presidents in the past have put signing statements on bills, but in this case The Statement gave the president power to wire tap with out a warrent. The Judge referrence to King was saying in America law is not a decree or order by a King., and President. does not have that power. Hope this helps, its your checks and balances.working.
5 :
Just type in How democracy works.
6 :
If you are in a AP Government class you should know that America is not a Democracy but is a Republic.
7 :
Democracy, yes we do have a democracy here in the United States, works because the majority is given the opportunity to choose its representitives locally and those local officials pick the leaders of the executive branch through the electoral college. This system works because it spreads out power over many layers of beurocracy, and all of these layers are dependant on the majority of the populus to elect it.
8 :
I don't know what ididots say that America is not a democracy, go back to school you morons, the term democracy has nothing to do with democratic or republican. We live in a democracy because we the people of the United States of America vote on our elected officials, our democracy works like this, we vote for our local representatives, and we vote for the House of Representatives and the senate, then the people who we elect into the house and senate represent us and they're the ones who actually vote in the president. The house and senate votes are the electoral votes and our votes are the popular votes, so we the people do not actually elect the president, but we do elect the people who vote for us
9 :
Well...it looks like...US is more of a republic...than a democracy. But i guess...US...is known for the democracy it doesn't have. I mean...how come...one person in a country is allowed to make a decision...while the rest of the country...who might oppose it...can't do anything. For example taking another country...which has a coalition government...one person can't make all the decision...it has to be supported by all his coalition members...who would support any action...that the people will support. One man controlling the whole country...well...thats more like a DICTATORSHIP!>

Yes, he needs a visa to enter USA, so depends upon what type of visa he entered upon, he can work. ( He needs work visa to work in USA ). ---- Update. Well, you can help him find a job, the employer usually apply for work permits & arrange visas. He most probably be pursuing for H1(b) visa to come to USA & work. Alternatively I can suggest, he visits you as visitor (you can send him sponsorship documents for visit visa) & checks the job market himself & try to secure a position, he however will have to go back to Singapore/Philippines & to apply for (work) visa from there.

Look for the words in the brochures: NTSC, ATSC. These denote the format of american televison. With out these then it's not universal. It will probably say PAL or SECAM. I know they make converters, but I don't know how well they work. Then there is the problem of how the converter will work with a cable box or the digital converter as well as the step up transformer. What a mess of wires to watch Good Morning America
3 :
NO ! unless you TV is Multi Systems. i don't think so.because all Multi SYSTEMS TV work Auto Voltage AC 100-260 V ( like all Laptop ).since you need steps up transformer ,is will be only 1 ) TV from Mose of EU countries is PAL systems.DVB tuner . 2 ) from Germany and Holland IS only DVB - T digital tuner . 3 ) from France is SCEAM systems and IPVP digital tuner. // is never work with USA ATSC digital Tuning systems ( non of EU countries use or going to swift to ATSC ) . even you cant work for AV playback ,source from USA DVD/VCR/PS3 video out are NTSC signals . .

I've worked in 3 different cities as an art director and graphic designer and it's the same wherever you go. Left-brainers VS Right-brainers... AEs vs. ADs... you just have to learn to develop a thick skin or you won't be happy wherever you go. I'm freelancing now and it's a little easier for me. I have a variety of clients I work with, so I'm not always locking horns with the same AEs. And the same Creative Directors, who can also drive an AD mad! Anyway, to answer your question, check out Creativehotlist.com. It's on the Communication Arts Web site. You can post your portfolio, put a listing, and search for jobs. You might also want to join the AIGA. They can send you a daily listing of new jobs around the country. You can also network at your local AIGA chapter. I've done both of these things and they have brought me new business. Good luck!

Is there a legal limit on the amount of hours a week that an adult is allowed to work in the United States
Is there a legal limit on the amount of hours a week that an adult is allowed to work in the United States?
I thought I heard somewhere that an adult is only allowed to work 80 hours a week or something... Is that true, or is an adult allowed to work for as long as they want? Thanks.

168 hours per week.
4 :
Some jobs have restrictions (truck driver, bus driver, pilot etc.) others have no limit.
5 :
Depends on the job, but generally, no.
6 :
NO, if the company wants you to work Overtime and you agree there you go.
7 :
an adult can work as many hours as he/she wishes but can not be forced to work more than 16 hrs/day & more than 6 days / wk ( unless it was a requirement for the job at hand and you were made aware before taking the job ). If your job is a truck driver or machine operater then there are restrictions put in place limiting the amount of hrs one can work in a given wk. every states labor laws are different.

Go to this link. http://www.uscis.gov/files/form/i-9.pdf It is the I9 form that everyone must complete when they get a job to prove they are legally eligible to work in the US. Scroll down to page 5 and there is a list of the usable IDs. In your case you will need your I-551 card (Green Card). You should have that card on you at all times.

Would mandatory voting work in the United States
Would mandatory voting work in the United States?
I have heard people talking about making voting mandatory - such as automatically making everyone register at 18. Seriously is this even an option in this country? In a free society is it right to force people to the polls?

I think if people don't care enough to vote we are probably better off without their input. Besides it strikes me as fundamentally wrong to force people to participate in the political system. I always tell people they really ought to vote, it buys you the right to complain about the government if nothing else.
4 :
Mandatory voting is an utterly absurd idea. Since when do we force people in a free society to vote? Do we really want a bunch of crack heads that are to lazy to go to the polls picking our leaders?

How does the academic grading system work in the United States
How does the academic grading system work in the United States?
I'm wondering how schools evaluate their students. I'm familiar with the A, B, C, D, F, system, the one I don't undertsnad is 4.0 and 3.0 and such... can someone explain please.

4.0 is an A, 3.0 is a B, 2.0 is a C, and 1.0 is a D, and of course failure is a 0. They give these numbers to the letter grades to assist in more accurate averaging for GPA, grade point average. If you have 4 A's and 3 B's, your GPA is 3.57. Hope this answers your question.
2 :
Basically it goes like this A=4, B=3, C=2,D=1; YOu give a number to the grade you obtain and then you add up your grades and take the average. For example, if my report card reads History B =3 Math C =2 Science A =4 Physical Ed A =4 English B =3 Elective C =2 Total Points=18 Divide by 6 because that is how many courses I took (18/6) and that gives me a 3.0

What does a Canadian have to do to work in the United States
What does a Canadian have to do to work in the United States?
I am a 16 year old girl living in Alberta, Canada and am looking to moving to Chicago when I am older... But the problem is.. I don't know if they will give me a visa because I live in Canada. I am looking at becoming a teacher or something in the education field. I probably will not be attending post secondary there.

1 :
Apply for I-94 student visa, and it should be valid throughout your higher education if you would like to attend college in the US. After that period of time which is usually 4 to 6 years, you can apply for permanent residency which begins with obtaining work authorization, and after about another 2 to 4 years you will be a permenant US Resident (not a citizen) and able to work and pay US taxes, still unable to vote though, one drawback would be that you may still be required to pay taxes in your own country as well, I'm not really sure what Canada's policy is on their citizens living abroad.
2 :
Get a college degree in Social Work or Counseling. Canadian Citizens can easily get a work visa in the US under the NAFTA regulations (TN Visa) as long as they work in certain fields including Social Work and Job Counseling. Once you get your degree, you should be able to find an employer in either of those two areas fairly easily and then the employer can sponsor you for your TN Visa which is very cheap and easy to obtain compared to other visas. For listing of the jobs and the degrees necessary for the TN visa, go here: http://www.nafta-sec-alena.org/DefaultSite/index_e.aspx?DetailID=167#Ap1603.D.1
3 :
An I-94 is a departure record card, not a student visa. The only easy way to work in the USA is if you have one of the degrees that qualifies for a TN visa. (Look "TN visa" up on the internet). If you do not have a degree in one of those fields it is very difficult, next to impossible.

Well you go into any store(grocery, shoe, clothing store etc) and ask for an application. Fill it out and turn it back in. Some companies have on-line applications that you can fill out and submit. This is a great time to start filling out applications, because a lot of retail companies are hiring for seasonal help. The holiday season is upon us, so most companies like to have extra help. Seasonal positions are mostly temporary, but if your a good worker the company will keep you around. Good luck and don't get stressed, finding a job is difficult because so many people stereotype because of where you are from or your race. They are not supposed to but everyone swears their own personal taste will benefit the company. Good luck

How does TV Syndication work in the United States
How does TV Syndication work in the United States?
Could some one explain that please? For example Oprah and Dr.Phil are on syndication, what does that mean and where could you watch that programme?
Comedy - 1 Answers

When programs are syndicated it means that they basically are put up for sale by the company that makes them, rather than being purchased by a major network. Any TV station across the nation is free to buy them and show them on that particular station. There are a number of first-run syndicated shows (like Dr. Phil, etc.), but the majority of syndicated shows are old TV series that originally ran on network TV. Once their network run and contract is complete, whatever studio owns the program puts it up for syndication and pretty much any station can buy the rights to broadcast that show.

How does medical school work in the united states
How does medical school work in the united states?
If u graduate high school at 18 and go straight to college how old will you be when you become a first year intern?? Do you go straight to medical school after high school? or do you have to do another course/major and then medical school?? thanks so much!

1 :
In Europe you go to Medical School right off high school if you get admitted through entrance exams. In the U.S. first you get a Bachelor's Degree, preferrably in Biology. Then you take an exam to get admitted to Medical School. It's very competitive because doctors make a lot of money in the U.S.
2 :
You first go to college for an undergraduate bachelors degree. If I'm not mistaken your major is premed. Either that or you pick a major that is medically related and you're just considered "premed". After you graduate with your bachelors degree, you go onto med school and graduate with your doctorate. It's after med school that you begin your internship and get your license and all of the fun stuff that allows you to legally practice medicine.
3 :
In the United States, Medical School is a professional degree, obtained after your undergraduate degree. At age 18, you go to college, obtaining a bachelors degree in any subject you want. To be accepted to a medical school, you need to take certain courses during your undergraduate years: Biology I and II, Chemistry I and II, Organic Chemistry I and II, Physics I and II, Calculus I, and Calculus II or Statistics I. Additionally you need to take two English courses. Certain Medical Schools may impose stricter requirements, but generally, the above courses are all that you need. You can complete any degree program you wish, as long as those above courses are done. The most typical major is Biology, but you could major in English, Economics, Political Science, Finance, or anything else you want, as long as the minimum coursework described above is done. Many students refer to the above listing of courses as Pre-Med requirements, but that is not a major, merely the list of specific courses that are the minimum to be accepted to a US Medical School. Bachelors degrees in the United States typically take four years to complete, but that can be shorter or longer depending on your particular program. Medical School is an additional four years, with the first two years spent completing coursework, and the later two years spent doing clinical rotations and obtaining hands on experience. The first year after graduation, is the beginning of your residency, which can take anywhere between two and 11 years, depending on what specialty you have chosen. To summarize, it is typically around eight years, in the United States, from high school graduation to first year intern.

EU citizens need a visa to work in the US. When traveling on the Visa Waiver Program which you mentioned, you absolutely cannot work. It's only for purposes of tourism.
3 :
The visitors visa and a work visa are two very different things with the work visa being the hardest to get. You would need to get an employer to apply for you as a sponsor.
4 :
Sorry - this country prefers third world workers.
5 :
Yes you would need that as well as current passport, namely the passport would be the most important document to have

Do you want a detailed answer because you honestly are interested? Or because you want to steal it to use for a homework assignment? The answer is actually simple: because the role of the Supreme Court is to evaluate based on the Constitution.
2 :
Do your own homework, you lazy liberal student.
3 :
The Supreme Court convenes for cases which have gone through the court system and are appealed. A common reason to overturn a conviction is, the law in question is unconstitutional, such as it violates the equal protection clause, it violates search and seizure provisions, etc. Hope I helped, good luck!

Well its possible that you could be deployed. You will have to drill and go to bootcamp I beleive. Being in the reserves you may be able to just stay at home and not have to travel... but since you are a translator.. you may be needed in many places that are overseas.. Its hard to tell. It depends on how much that language is needed.

yea resever do go to bootcamp but trust me girls got it good there lol they get treated real good compared to the guys>,< well in fort L wood they did lol

How do European license plates work in the United States? What's the process and how do i order one?
I want to get a european license plate for my 2002 BMW 325i but im not sure where and how to get it. I also want to know does the plate have to go through the DMV or is there a different process to it?

You can only have a European license plate on your car in the United States if you are a legal resident of a European nation. This isn't like a specialty plate, it is from your place of residence. If you live in Ohio, you have to have an Ohio plate. Now if you visit Arizona or Washington, those states respect the Ohio plate and allow you to continue driving. This same process is used for Europeans that bring their cars over for vacation or temporary residence. I am afraid the answer to your second question is, you can't.

What does innoncent until proven guility mean if im not allowed to go to work for a charge i dont go to court for till dec.6th and right now im not innocent or guility . Can my work tell me im not allowed to come in because of a charge that is currently pending ? Dealing with stolen property - felony and were contractor carriers Its not actualy working for them . We are contractors . We bid a route for so much a year and we can put whoever we want on them as long as they arent convicted felons . But thats my point im not convicted , and wont be able to work now till my court which is in december . so now im out a job and if they dont want me because of the pending charge pretty sure ima be outta work too now

Depends on the charge. You need to update your question and lay out the charge, as well as the circumstances. The Postal Service may be entitled to furlough you until the charge is disposed of depending on the foregoing.
2 :
It means exactly what it means, Innocent until proven guilty. It is up to draw up deductions.
3 :
no, even an arrest will disqualify you.
4 :
You can't be sent to prison unless you're convicted and sentenced. But for serious enough charges, a judge has the right to deny bail and keep the charged person incarcerated through the conclusion of any legal proceedings. So, the 'innocent until proven guilty' concept is tenuous at best. But that pertains only to your freedom. Any employer or party to contract employment retains the right to protect itself from possible liability for anything done by workers it employs or contracts with. Being charged with a felony creates, in the eyes of many, a possibility of running into problems. And when the charge is felony theft-related, and the work being done is handling security-sensitive items like mail, any employer is wise to refuse the charged person to work for them until such time as the cloud of suspicion is either lifted or affirmed in the judicial process. It might not seem fair to you, but the company is doing the smart thing.

No, you can not work until you get your work permit/EAD Card which is DHS Authorization. Your social security card that you have now is not valid for work. Be patient, you will get your work permit within 90 days after you got your receipt notice, if you do not receipt yet after 90 days, you can go to your local USCIS office and ask them to issue your interim work permit. Good Luck! I hope you got your work permit and permanent card very soon!
3 :
No, if your social security card is marked "valid for work only with DHS authorization" you must wait for that authorization before you can begin to work. That means you wait for either a work permit or for permission to get a SS card with no conditions.

This is really getting old. All this has been debunked long ago. Both the candidates are legal citizens. Get over it. I would like to see McCain's sanity papers though. lol

Home Run Chief. Bi-partisan. Just a straight up question. As the employer of the President and those on his staff, we have the right to see the background data on why these people are either vetted into the job or not. Damn sure works for me.

He is supposed to be working for the people.... I have an idea, why dont we make it mandatory for all candidates for federal office to take a lie detector test drug test and personality profile test...we require it for local police, judges and other low level government workers....why not the people who are supposed to be leading the country!!!

you got it right chief! i have always said the that and it kills me that everyone wants to just ignore and deny it all, making excuses about not being forthright or clearing things up. why the hell are the papers redacted if there's nothing to hide? quite frankly, obama has so many questionable issues not only on a personal level but politically level, that i just can't seem to figure out why he was even nominated. other than the obvious politically motivated agenda by the dems to get a black man in office, a radically left man in office. it makes them look good (i guess). its a home run for them - historical move, and their socialist agendas would be met. so i think he's been groomed (for years btw!), and a puppet of the socialist party of which he supports. if you listen to his and his wifes speeches, they use the same lines and beliefs as the saul lisenky (whatever his last name is) book, and he is complete leftist, socialist radical. its their bible. and if that doesn't scare you then God help us. change is one thing, and yes there a lot of things that need to be changed. no one party is innocent in this mess. politics is corrupt, vile, greddy and power hungry. however, thats the politicians not AMERICA and what it is supposed to be. so dems, quit trying to change America into some country that it is not. you want a more social sovernment, fine. noones telling you you cant have it. just get it somewhere else. the American way of life and government is capitalism. you don't like it? MOVE!!!! look at the root word of government - GOVERN. not dictate and regulate. Obama Nation is an Abomination McCain/Palin '08

Excellent Chief! You have to show your Birth Certificate to get a Driver License in this State - but I can't see the one for a guy running for President when that is a REQUIREMENT? Has anyone filed a FIFA? I assumed they had. Perhaps I should have filed one myself.I want to know everything about his life in Indonesia - including going to the whatever with his Step-father. UN-REDACTED?? Are you kidding? Sounds like Mickey Mouse got to that with his crayons. Only thing I ever had to redact were names in Grand Jury Transcripts. Names of INNOCENT people. THERE ARE McCAIN signs in New York!! I'll have one today. It'll probably be gone by tomorrow along with auto damage, but hell - I'll try. And these are the folks who SAVAGED Sarah Palin via Garry Trudeau over the week-end. There is no word for how shameful this is. Who's he married to? Diane Sawyer? One of 'em. They've tried to say the same about McCain because he was born in the Canal Zone. Haven't heard that in months since it was PROVEN that the Canal Zone/Military status qualified. C'Mon Barry - what are you afraid of - the TRUTH?

You are right, the problem is, some do not seem to care about little details like citizenship, college records, 8 years of state senate records, or surrounding yourself with people who have no integrity. That's the sad fact, some will follow a pig to the slop and applaud it for eating.

Pretty good question, and he is supposedly working for legal citizens of the United States. The caveat is that most people disenfranchise themselves by NOT voting and so are not really represented... Question IS, how do we get a president really representative of the population of America ? ( if a minority of people vote, as per the past elections) So, truthfully, the president works for the minorities unless everyone eligible votes.... Also, there JUST MIGHT be the influences of lobbyiests, not to mention who the president is sleeping with (literally and figuritively).

You and me and all the rest of the citizens of this great nation is who he works for. Yet, we have many more unanswered questions about Obama. What has he got to hide. What is his agenda? At least we know all there is to know about McCain, his politics, and his giving nature in his personal life. We know he wants what's best for this country, and will fight for it. Obama schmoozes with terrorists and is endorsed by the communist party, he was a mamber of the socialist "New Party" in 1996, Hamas and Hezbollah love him. Do we really want to hire Obama? fr.
The People. We feed him, Put clothes on his back, Provide all the tools for him to do his job, What should we expect from this person. The best job he or she could ever do., Bar none. So this being the case, Why aren't we the people in this country. Shown the information that the so called agency's see on these people running for the job, 1. Why hasn't Baracks Birth Certificate been Made Public by the US Government, instead of his phony ass web site. Freedom of information act applies here, where the hell is it. 2. Where are his entry papers into this country from Indonesia, why are they not made public. 3. Where is his mothers exit papers to Indonesia from Hawaii if this was this was the destination point. 4. Where is Baracks Complete Ill senate voting record, Un redacted. Just some minor annoying little discrepencys that bother the hell out of me. Same go's for McCain. If you have questions go for it, But we the ultimate employer of the President have the right to see the information our so called agency's have on these people. What you think America,

Can Canadians work in the United States
Can Canadians work in the United States?
Do Canadians require and H1-b to work in the US? If so, is it easier for Canadians than for other nationalities?

Sure they can. I personally know several nurses who are Canadian citizens.
2 :
Canadians don't work in Canada! Why should it be any different here? I spent a week in Toronto and there were more homeless window washers assaulting my car at every stop than I have ever seen since. Stay up there, I know you guys think your country is better than ours and I wouldn't want you to leave it's greatness.
3 :
Canada has the NAFTA treaty with US and Mexico where the citizens of any country can work in any of the others. Canadians just need to get a TN1 visa at the point of entry by showing the employment letter and proof that they are qualified to do the job. This will include your educational certificates and work experience. Any more details, please visit US immigration web site
4 :
Edge is right. Yes, it is easier for Canadians thanks to NAFTA. Here is a lot of information that you might find useful: http://www.travel.state.gov/visa/temp/types/types_1274.html
5 :
Why do want to work here when you have some many lakes where you can go fishing in Canada? Well your right it's winter.
