Does government work in the United States, or should we start over

Does government work in the United States, or should we start over?
I didn't suggest changing the Constitution. Maybe we should review all policies of our government. Lillian - This will surprise you, but I think our government is too big and doesn't work very well. Croaker - I actually agree with you.

It works

What part of the government do you have a problem with? The DMV? DOE? DOT? DOD? you will need to get a bit more specific.
3 :
The government works but we just need some new politicians that aren't crooks.
4 :
It isn't perfect, it's just better than everything else out there.
5 :
We need to start over from the top down.
6 :
It works better than any other country's government..... Look after only a little over 200 years, we are the wealthiest and most powerful country in the world. Our poor live better than the upper class do in most countries....80% of homes have microwaves, cell phones, etc.... So, something is working right....yeah, maybe we can make it work better...but, we are all pretty well off.
7 :
Government's fine. It's the people that work in it.
8 :
It works....better than anywhere else in the world....chin up.
9 :
Start over, not to change the constitution but simply reinstate it! Our founders had it right the first time, then we let the elitists high jack it so we could save our liberty by taking them all away make sense???
10 :
It works, just too much corruption under the Repubes.

Remember what Pres Eisenhower warned about and what Pres JFK died over...I think at this point it looks like Bible prophesy and the coming mark of the ...

start over - I am from CO...I don't want to be a part of the south or New England... the feds were never supposed to have this much power.

Would mandatory voting work in the United States

Would mandatory voting work in the United States?
I have heard people talking about making voting mandatory - such as automatically making everyone register at 18. Seriously is this even an option in this country? In a free society is it right to force people to the polls?

.Maybe so and maybe not. I'm not quite sure.
2 :
No, people have the right to abstain.
3 :
I think if people don't care enough to vote we are probably better off without their input. Besides it strikes me as fundamentally wrong to force people to participate in the political system. I always tell people they really ought to vote, it buys you the right to complain about the government if nothing else.

Mandatory voting is an utterly absurd idea. Since when do we force people in a free society to vote? Do we really want a bunch of crack heads that are to lazy to go to the polls picking our leaders?

How does the academic grading system work in the United States

How does the academic grading system work in the United States?
I'm wondering how schools evaluate their students. I'm familiar with the A, B, C, D, F, system, the one I don't undertsnad is 4.0 and 3.0 and such... can someone explain please.

4.0 is an A, 3.0 is a B, 2.0 is a C, and 1.0 is a D, and of course failure is a 0. They give these numbers to the letter grades to assist in more accurate averaging for GPA, grade point average. If you have 4 A's and 3 B's, your GPA is 3.57. Hope this answers your question.
2 :
Basically it goes like this A=4, B=3, C=2,D=1; YOu give a number to the grade you obtain and then you add up your grades and take the average. For example, if my report card reads History B =3 Math C =2 Science A =4 Physical Ed A =4 English B =3 Elective C =2 Total Points=18 Divide by 6 because that is how many courses I took (18/6) and that gives me a 3.0

What does a Canadian have to do to work in the United States

What does a Canadian have to do to work in the United States?
I am a 16 year old girl living in Alberta, Canada and am looking to moving to Chicago when I am older... But the problem is.. I don't know if they will give me a visa because I live in Canada. I am looking at becoming a teacher or something in the education field. I probably will not be attending post secondary there.

Apply for I-94 student visa, and it should be valid throughout your higher education if you would like to attend college in the US. After that period of time which is usually 4 to 6 years, you can apply for permanent residency which begins with obtaining work authorization, and after about another 2 to 4 years you will be a permenant US Resident (not a citizen) and able to work and pay US taxes, still unable to vote though, one drawback would be that you may still be required to pay taxes in your own country as well, I'm not really sure what Canada's policy is on their citizens living abroad.

Get a college degree in Social Work or Counseling. Canadian Citizens can easily get a work visa in the US under the NAFTA regulations (TN Visa) as long as they work in certain fields including Social Work and Job Counseling. Once you get your degree, you should be able to find an employer in either of those two areas fairly easily and then the employer can sponsor you for your TN Visa which is very cheap and easy to obtain compared to other visas. For listing of the jobs and the degrees necessary for the TN visa, go here: http://www.nafta-sec-alena.org/DefaultSite/index_e.aspx?DetailID=167#Ap1603.D.1

An I-94 is a departure record card, not a student visa. The only easy way to work in the USA is if you have one of the degrees that qualifies for a TN visa. (Look "TN visa" up on the internet). If you do not have a degree in one of those fields it is very difficult, next to impossible.
