Being British, what exactly would I need to live and work in the United States

Being British, what exactly would I need to live and work in the United States?
I'm 20 years old and from Scotland, and recently had the idea of moving to America for a year or so to live and work. Any idea what I would need exactly, any documents visas etc? And how exactly to go about getting them. Any help would be much appreciated.

The first thing you would need is employment and that is going to be very hard. Depends what you are qualified in.

There is no such visa. In fact there is nothing you can even apply for. You need to be sponsored by a direct relative or a company who can prove they can't find someone to do your job. At 20 that's not going to happen. Crazy I know!

Don't even bother, you are not eligible for any work visas for the US.

Get the idea out of your head.... get the PhD first ..then a few years work experience ... then you have chances

You need an immediate family member who is a US citizen to petition for you,or,if you are highly educated and highly skilled in a profession that is needed in the US,you can try to find an employer to sponsor you. There is no visa to come here for a year to live and work.
