Will a video game console from New Zealand work in the United States

Will a video game console from New Zealand work in the United States?
Will a video game console from New Zealand be compatible with North American TV's and such? Of the three (Wii, Xbox 360, and PS3), which if any (or all?) will work in the United States? What about the fact that USA is NTSC and New Zealand is PAL. Does that affect anything?

They should. There might be a difference in power plugs but I would imagine that New Zealand isn't really all that backwards.

That will depend on the TV you use in the US. There are an increasing number of NTSC / PAL compatible TV's (at least there are in some markets - not sure about the US) but there are two other problems as well though. A different voltage is used, so you'd have to buy an adaptor & DVD players are still region locked which means that you will not be able to play North American region DVD's or Blue Ray discs. The games should be okay though, because they aren't region locked & only the video output is affected by the NTSC / PAL difference. Same problems with all game systems. Hope this helps.

Please help: How do recruiters in the United States work

Please help: How do recruiters in the United States work?
My fiance was contacted by a recruiter a couple of weeks ago and has had 2 interviews with them since then. He is very skilled in his field (IT and sales engineering) and has a lot of experience; the recruiter said they could likely get him into a position making the same if not more money than in his previous job. Here's where I start to feel uneasy - the recruiter wants a $3500 fee from my fiance. Supposedly this fee covers their services as well as a package that contains things like contact information/direct lines to hiring managers, salary negotiations, "targeted position search", resume assistance and interview training (the last 2 my fiance does not need) and things like that (he just called me and was driving - I haven't seen the paperwork so there could be more - we're going to go over it when he's home tonight because those were some of the offhand things he remembered from the interview). I'm not sure how I feel about it. We haven't been given any specifics on companies or positions. From what I've read online, legitimate recruiters work for the companies and therefore receive compensation from them, not the job seeker. I also feel like it's strange that they want this fee from someone who likely is not working. My fiance isn't sure how he feels about it. The idea of having assistance in negotiations and the fact that the recruiter explained that it could mean the difference of about 20k in an annual salary has him wanting it to be legitimate, but there are still concerns. I feel uneasy but I wanted to ask people who may have experience with this sort of thing. Does this sound legitimate to you or like a potential scam? We have a week to give them a decision and he has 2 more interviews scheduled with actual companies (one tomorrow morning and one at the beginning of February). Please give us some insight into the recruitment industry and whether or not these sounds legitimate.

Legit recruiters don't charge the applicant. The fee is paid by the hiring company. In some states what they are offering isn't even legal. The only case where a fee is paid by the job hunter it should be paid after a job is secured and even that is rare these days.

As the post above points out, recruiter fees are paid by the employer. The fee they pay is based on a % of the successful candidate's annual salary. The applicant NEVER pays a recruiter. I've worked with at least 3 different recruitment agencies over my career and have never been asked to pay a cent from any of them Find another agency

How does studying abroad in the united states work

How does studying abroad in the united states work?
I live in South Africa, I’m in Gr. 11. I speak English at home, so I won’t have any trouble with language transition. I would like to study psychology at the University of Hawaii. My grades are good, but I don’t know how to work out your GPA. I was just wondering if someone could explain to me, in a nutshell, what I need to do, or what needs to happen for me to apply to a university in the U.S. Here are a couple of questions: How long before the time should you apply? How long before the university starts do you have to take the SAT’s? What do I need in order to apply? How do I apply? Where do I apply? Also are there any study programs that allow you to study in the U.S? Thanks

Generally, students in the U.S. apply to universities between September and January of their final year in school, and they need to take the SAT before they apply. I am including the webpage for international admissions for the University of Hawaii at Manoa (the main campus), which will tell you how to apply. Usually, these days, one does this on line. http://www.hawaii.edu/admrec/appfo.html Generally study programs would only allow you to study abroad for a short period of time, not for an entire degree. Since these are usually sponsored by the student's home country, not the host country, I can't tell you of any specific programs for which you might be eligible.

1) Generally you should start applying at least 10-12 months before you intend to start your studies, because the admission and visa process can take several months. For example, if you wish to apply for Spring (January) 09, you should start applying about no. Be aware however, that many universities have admission deadlines, so be sure to check what they are. You are probably too late to attend university this fall (August). 2) Take the SAT's ASAP, since most university will allow the SAT scores to be valid for 3-5 years. 3) In order to apply you will need these basic things: - Proof that you have graduated high-school. - Proof that you have the funds to pay for tuition and financially support yourself. - SAT scores - TOEFL scores (If English is not your countries primary language). - School transcrips of any higher-eduation which you have completed. 4 & 5) Take a look at the websites for the university(ies) which you are interested in attending and there you will find all of the information which you require regarding how to apply and where to apply as an international student. Once you have applied and been accepted you will be issued with what is known as an I-20 and with this I-20 you must pay the SEVIS fee and then schedule an interview for your F1 (student) visa at the U.S. Embassy in your country of residence. The requirements for admission to the University of Hawaii are below. Click on the campus you are interested in on the left hand side to check for additional requirements for admission to that specific campus. You last question makes little senes, you stated that you want to study psychology, all of the campuses at the University of Hawaii offer this program and Hawaii is a State in the United States - so therefore if you are studying in Hawaii, you are studying in the U.S.

Every school is different. And your SAT's should be completed, or at least scheduled before you apply. A year in advance is a good rule of thumb for getting things in order to apply to any college. Some College deadlines for applicants are in January for the next fall semester - and others are as late as June or July; it depends on the school. The bigger or more prestigious the school, the sooner one needs to get things done. You can apply on-line for a lot of colleges. Go to the web-site for whichever school you have an interest, and look at ALL of the requirements for that particular school. I'd take the SAT"S soon. Don't forget about passports and Student Visas. Good luck, Siggy
